HISTORY: Ms. Martha Linda Franks had a calling many years ago to begin a facility where senior adults could receive compassionate care in a Christian atmosphere. Ms. Franks had been a missionary to China for forty years. Her brother, Clyde Franks, had bought and restored the historic Italian villa that is located in Laurens on what is now the Martha Franks property. He had built a retirement cottage for his sister. In the following years, Ms. Martha formed a prayer group with her friends from First Baptist Church of Laurens and a thrift shop on the downtown square. She also raised money through recycled glass at the Laurens Glass Plant and traveled extensively to churches to share her vision. Ms. Franks was the first resident to enter when the community opened in 1985.
The current executive director, Dina Hair, was then the activity director and had recently graduated from Presbyterian College of Clinton. She knew and loved Ms. Martha Franks. The community continues to thrive, adapt and serve seniors from all over, growing now to almost two hundred residents.
